Across the Valley of the Sun, kids are heading back to school for another year of learning. Back at home, it’s still hot, and there’s plenty to learn about air conditioning. So, we thought it was a good time to share a few ABCs of HVAC to help educate you on how to keep your system running efficiently and effectively.
A for Air Filters
The single most important thing you can do to maintain the life of your air conditioner is replacing your air filters on a monthly basis. Phoenix is dusty. No, it’s really dusty. And that means that particulates that are floating in the air pass through your system. If you have pets, the dust and dander dilemma is even more problematic. The answer is changing out air filters on a monthly basis. Mark it on your calendar and just do it!
B for Breaker Switch
Not only is it back to school season, it’s also monsoon season. And this means electrical and windstorms that can result in power outages and surges. These events can trip your breaker which will turn your air conditioner off. Most of the time, you won’t know something happened until your home starts to heat up. Then, the first thing that comes to mind is a problem with your air conditioner, not an electrical issue. So, if you’ve experienced an all-of-a-sudden air conditioner failure (especially after a storm), a good place to start is by checking to see if the outdoor unit is running. If it’s not, check the breaker. Often, a simple flip of a switch can solve the problem.
C for Compressor
Air conditioners have many “Cs,” with compressor being the most obvious. A compressor is truly the “heart” of an air conditioner. But there would be no system without capacitors, coils, condensers and contactors. And there’s another “C” word that’s good to know when it comes to air conditioning. It’s Chandler Air. Whether you’re struggling with a minor malfunction or a total system failure, we’re at the head of the class.
